The board came to this decision after receiving a recommendation from a Financial Strategy Advisory Committee (FSAC), that the board had set up to assess the financial situation of the board.

After conducting their investigation, the committee recommenced that CWI should bring into effect salary cuts to maintain the long term financial stability of the board.

In an official statement released by the CWI, they commented that “since no international cricket was being played at the moment, and also since the future of cricket at this point was looking uncertain, the board, was forced to take pay cuts for players and support staff”.

Ricky Skerrit the president of CWI, commented that “the COVID-19 pandemic, has been disastrous for all West Indians and that the decision to cut staff salary was a difficult one for the board”. He commented that “the salary cut was a temporary measure and that it would last only for four to six months”. It must be noted that CWI was paying full salaries to both its staff and players since the COVID-19 pandemic started.
