Earlier this year, the PCB had found Akmal guilty breaching the ICC code of conduct. As a result, he was handed a three-year ban which started in February of this year. After the ruling, Akmal had challenged the ruling made by the PCB claiming that he was unjustly punished, as a result, he appealed for his ban to be lifted. Following that the PCB commented that they were going to set up an independent panel to preside over the hearing of the case.

Reportedly, Umar Akmal had hired the services of Babar Awan to represent him during the hearing.

Pakistani Cricketer Umar Akmal picked up his first ban, during February, just before the start of the PSL, as a result, he was not able to participate in the tournament.

The PCB had charged him with breaching Article 2.4.4, which relates to instances of a player not reporting approaches of corruption or match-fixing by other entities. With the current ruling, Akmal is set to be out of action until 2023.
