CSK Won’t support IPL With only Indian Players

Officials from the IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings, in an official post have commented that “the team and its members are not open to the idea of holding the IPL, without the participation of any foreign players”. They commented that “doing so would reduce the IPL to the status of a first-class competition like the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy”.

The CSK side, under the leadership of MS Dhoni, has claimed the IPL title on three occasions, they are the second most successful IPL team so far, only falling behind the Mumbai Indians in terms of title wins. This edition of the IPL was set to be the grand return stage for Dhoni, who prior to the tournament had not played any form of cricket for almost a year.

However, with the current stoppage, his return too will need to wait till things improve. Earlier in the month, officials from another IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals had commented that “a shortened IPL, with only Indian players, would be favourable”. Speaking on the matter, they commented that “since the quality of cricket in India has improved significantly over the years, there was enough talent for teams to choose from”.
