Nitin Menon Becomes Third Indian, to be named in ICC Elite Panel of Umpires
Indian umpire Nitin Menon has been named as a part of the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires, for the upcoming 2020-2021 season. With this announcement, Menon has become the third Indian to have been named in the elite panel.
Before him, both Srinivas Venkatraghavan and Sundaram Ravi have served in the panel, for India. Ravi, has a short international career as an umpire, so far.
He has officiated, three Test matches, 16 T20 games, and 24 ODI games. Menon was named as a part of the panel, by a committee that consisted of the ICC General Manager Geoff Allardice, match referees David Boon and Ranjan Madugalle and former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar.
Speaking on the matter, Menon commented that “it was a matter of great honor and pride for him to be named in the Elite Panel”. He commented that “in his short time officiating international games,
he has understood the responsibilities that come with the job, and that, he was looking forward, the opportunities and challenges that will come his way”.
Other members of the ICC Elite Panel include Aleem Dar, Marais Erasmus, Kumar Dharmasena, Chris Gaffaney, Michael Gough, Richard Kettleborough, Richard Illingworth, Bruce Oxenford, Rod Tucker Paul
Reiffel, and Joel Wilson.
