Jason Roy – it was unfortunate that the Hundred was delayed

English cricketer Jason Roy comments that it was unfortunate that the Hundred was delayed

English cricketer Jason Roy has commented that “it was a huge shame for English cricket that the inaugural edition of the Hundred had to be pushed back to next year”. The Hundred which was set to introduce a new 100 ball format was set to make its debut season this year, with several teams representing different cities in England, however, due to the Coronavirus outbreak the ECB last week announced that they would be pushing back the start of the hundred to next year. The main reason for this was because the ECB wanted to prioritize international games and the vitality T20 blast, two of their biggest revenue generators.

The Hundred, on the other hand, was a relatively new format with almost no fan appeal at present, the ECB did not want to hold the Hundred behind closed doors, and they also wanted to involve foreign players in the tournament, something that they will not be able to do at present. Roy, who was also set to participate in the tournament, is part of the Oval Invincible side, he was purchased for a sum of 125,000 pounds ($157,000) in the auction. Speaking on the matter Roy commented that “he understood the ECB’s decision to push back the Hundred and that he would prefer that the tournament be held properly with all the players”.
