ECB could lose up to 360 million pounds this season due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The English Cricket Board is set to lose, a total of 360 million pounds, if the entire cricket season for this year, ends up being cancelled. Currently, the ECB has announced a lockdown on cricket, that is set to last till the first of July.
However, this lockdown could be extended if the situation with the Coronavirus outbreak does not improve in the country. Speaking on the matter, Tom Harrison the chief executive of the ECB has commented that “in case of a worst-case scenario, no cricket could be played this season and that almost 800 days of cricket would end up being cancelled”. Harrison commented that “the ECB started this season, with good financial numbers, however, the recent turn of events has put things at disarray”.
The ECB has been helping out domestic boards, during this time of financial crisis. Recently it announced a 61 million pound package for domestic boards, the ECB has also been giving out grants and small loans, to different small clubs within the country. Earlier this week, the ECB announced that they would be cancelling player contracts for the Hundred, which was postponed to next year, with the aim of minimizing financial losses.
