Ben Stokes Could Lead the First Test Against West Indies
English all-rounder Ben Stokes, could be named as the skipper of the English side for the team’s first Test against West Indies that is set to take place in the coming month.
Joe Root who is the skipper of the English side, in the Test format, could likely miss the first Test, if things go ahead as planned, as he and his wife are expecting the birth of their child at that same time point.
Joe Root had earlier commented that “he wanted to be with his family, at this point in time”, meaning that he could miss the first Test that was set to being from the 8th of next month. In his absence, Ben Stokes who is the vice-captain of the team would be taking his place.
So far Stokes has little experience as a captain, at the international level. Even in domestic cricket, he has captained just three games, with varying results.
Of the three games that he has captained in domestic cricket, he won one, lost one and drew one game. Speaking on the matter, Root commented that “Stokes as a captain would be fantastic for the English team”. Root feels that “Stokes has the ability to bring the best out of his players, during the game”.
