DHAKA: Former Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza has tested positive for COVID-19. The cricketer Mashrafe Mortaza is currently reportedly in self-isolation at his residence at Dhaka.
The cricketer himself was not available for comments at this time, and any information regarding his health was shared by his family members.
This the second high profile incidence COVID-19 in cricket in the last couple of weeks. Last week, former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi had also tested positive for the virus.
Another former Bangladeshi cricketer Nafees Iqbal, who is the elder brother of Tamim Iqbal the current limited-overs skipper for the team, was also tested positive for the virus.
Nafees too has reportedly entered himself into self- isolation at his home in Chittagong.
In the case of Mortaza, it was earlier reported that some of his family members had tested positive for the virus, this may be the reason behind his own infection.
Speaking on the matter, Morsalin bin Mortaza his brother commented that “Mortaza had been feeling unwell for the past couple of days and that this forced them to test him for COVID-19, unfortunately the tests returned positive”.
