Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai to be Used as a Quarantine Facility

The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai is set to be used as a quarantine facility for some time, in a bid to control the increasing numbers of Coronavirus cases in Mumbai. The order to covert the stadium into a quarantine facility was taken by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai.

The stadium is expected to remain as a quarantine facility for at least a couple of months. A directive that was issued by the MCA, this week stated that all personnel with possession of hotels, clubs, exhibitions, marriage halls and such, are to hand over the control of these properties to the government.

The government will compensate these personnel at appropriate rates, these rates will be decided in time. This change in ownership of property is temporary and is expected to last only a few months.

The premises that would be taken over by the government will be used for emergency staff and quarantining of personnel who have come in contact with COVID-19 patients. Personnel who are not compliant with these directives could be charged under section 188 of the Indian penal code.

Speaking on the matter, Sanjay Naik the secretary of the MCA commented that “the board will cooperate with the government and that they are awaiting fuhrer instructions”.
