Sourav Ganguly announces cancellation of the Asia Cup
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, has announced that “the Asia cup has been cancelled”. Ganguly, made these comments, ahead of the scheduled meeting for the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), which was set to take place later this week, on the 9th. Ganguly however did not specify if the decision was taken by the ACC.
He revealed this information during an online chat with, Vikrant Gupta. Speaking on the matter, Ganguly commented that “at this point, it was difficult to predict which tournament team India would participate in after the COVID restrictions are lifted”. He commented that “the BCCI, was not in a hurry to restart cricket, as the safety of the players was more important for the board”.
The Asia Cup could have been the first tournament that team India played in post-COVID-19, however Ganguly’s comments seem to indicate otherwise. Ganguly also stated that “the BCCI was looking for ways to conduct the IPL, this year itself”. He stated that “the board was waiting for the ICC, to take a final call regarding the T20 World Cup”. Ganguly feels that the cancellation of the T20 World Cup, could be announced as soon as this month. The ICC is reportedly holding a meeting on the 17th of this month, to decide on the fate of the tournament.
