India’s limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka Cancelled Due to COVID-19
The boards of Sri Lanka and India have decided to call off India’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, which was set to take place in the June-July time period, due to the prevailing salutation with the COVID-19 outbreak.
With the number of positive cases increasing in both India and Sri Lanka, it seemed logical for both teams to call off the series.
The limited-overs series consisted of three ODI and three T20 games.
Even though the series has been called off, the BCCI is hoping that they will be able to complete the tour during the August-September time frame, if the situation improves.
Earlier last month, there were talks of India touring South Africa for a limited-overs series, however with this announcement that seems to have been shelved for the time being.
Regarding the tour of Sri Lanka, even if the situation with the COVID-19 improves, the BCCI would need permission from the Indian government before they can move ahead will the plan.
Travel restrictions are one of the major setbacks that many teams across the world are facing at the moment.
The BCCI is also currently looking for ways to conduct the IPL this year, it remains to be seen if the BCCI would favor the IPL over bilateral encounters.
