ICC Dismiss Rumors of T20 World Cup Rescheduling
The ICC has officially announced that they are currently not planning to postpone the dates for the men’s T20 World Cup, which was set to be held later this year, to sometime in 2022.
The apex cricketing body is currently working on scheduling and working out the logistics of hosting the tournament. Earlier this week several outlets had reported that the ICC had pushed back the T20 World Cup. With this announcement, the ICC has proven these reports wrong. Cricket Australia also confirmed that no decision regarding the T20 World Cup, had been made as of now and that a final call on the matter, would be taken in three to four weeks time.
The main reason that many are speculating the postponement of the World Cup, is due to the isolation policy that has been adopted by the Australian government at present. Earlier this month, the Governor-General of Australia had announced an extension of lockdown in the country, from July to November of this year.
This meant that the lockdown period will coincide with the T20 World Cup. Conducting the tournament during this time would be a logistical nightmare and for this reason, many have proposed pushing back the tournament.
