Grant Flower, recalls interesting interaction with former Pak cricketer Younis Khan

Former Zimbabwe cricketer Grant Flower has commented that “former Pakistani cricketer Younis Khan, had held a knife to his throat, while he was part of the team, as a batting coach”.

Flower, who was the batting coach for the Pakistan team, from 2014 to 2019, made these comments while appearing on the Following On Cricket Podcast. Currently, he is the batting coach, for Sri Lanka.

The incident, reportedly took place in 2016, during Pakistan’s tour of Australia. The incident happened during the first Test, in which Younis scored 0 and 65 in the first and second innings respectively.

According to Flower, “he tried to give Younis some advice on batting, during breakfast time, however Younis seemed annoyed with this and as a result, he held a knife to Flower’s throat”.

Flower commented that the Pakistan team’s head coach, “Mickey Arthur, who was with them at the time, had to step in to diffuse the situation”. Though Younis, was able to perform well during the three-match series, Pakistan still ended up losing the series, by a margin of 3-0.

Grant Flower also commented that “Ahmed Shehzad, the opening batsman for the Pakistan team, was also a rebellious character”.
