Zimbabwe’s Tour of Australia Called off, Due to COVID-19

The three-match ODI series, between Australia, and Zimbabwe, which was set to take place in August, has been pushed back, to a later date, due to the situation with COVID-19 in Australia.

Recently, Australia has been grappling with a fresh wave of COVID-19 infections, with 7500 new positive cases being reported recently. Of these 7000 people have recovered, and 104 have passed away.

In an official statement released to the public, CA commented that “the short length of the series,
combined with the fact that bio-security measures that were needed to be implemented before the start of the series were the two main reasons for pushing back the tour”.

The boards of both the teams made this decision keeping in mind, the safety of the players, match officials, and volunteers.

Speaking on the matter, Nick Hockley the interim chief of CA, commented that “the board was disappointing about having to push back the dates for the tour and that they are working with the Zimbabwe board to reschedule to the series”.

Givemore Makoni, the managing director of Zimbabwe cricket also expressed similar sentiments, commenting that “the board, was looking to reschedule the series, as soon as possible”.
