West Indies, head coach, Phil Simmons has entered self-isolation, after having attended a funeral this Friday.
Simmons, as a result, will remain in self-isolation, in his hotel room at Old Trafford, till Thursday.
Additionally, he would need to clear two COVID-19 Tests, before he is allowed to re-join his team, before the start of their Test series.
However, the absence of Simmons is not expected to hamper the preparation of the team, going into the series.
Rayon Griffith and Roddy Estwick, who are the assistant coaches for the team, are expected to oversee the training of the players in the absence of Simmons.
The first Test between England and West Indies is set to kick off from the 8th of July.
Alzarri Joseph, who is likely to be a part of the West Indies squad for the first Test, commented that “Simmons being in isolation, will not affect the preparation of team in any manner”.
Joseph will be part of a four-man, bowling attack that includes Kemar Roach, Shannon Gabriel, and Jason Holder. Joseph commented that “his role in the team, is to back up these bowlers and keep the pressure on the batsman”.
