Pakistani cricketer Wahab Riaz has commented that “he was forced to retire from Test cricket, after being repeatedly ignored by the selectors for the format”.
Wahab who turns 35 this month, commented that “he has not been part of the Test side since October of 2018”.Wahab Riaz last played for Pakistan in a series against Australia.
He further stated that “since the selectors were ignoring him in the Test format, he decided to focus on limited over formats”.
So far, Wahab has represented Pakistan in 27 Tests, 89 ODI’s and 31 T20 internationals.
In total, he has picked up 228 wickets throughout his career. It was earlier speculated that both Wahab and Mohammad Aamir were dropped by the selectors as punishment for leaving Test cricket at a time when the team needed them the most.
Wahab Riaz is currently a regular feature in different T20 leagues across the world.
Despite playing cricket all year round, Wahab feels that “playing for Pakistan was more important for him, than holding a central contract“.
Wahab feels that “he is still capable of playing cricket at the international level, and that he was looking forward to representing the side in white-ball cricket in the future”.
