Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has come out with some suggestions for the ICC after they recently ratified the ban on the use of saliva on the cricket ball.
Tendulkar feels that the “bowlers should somehow be compensated for this action and that otherwise, the batsman would have an easier time on the field”.
Sachin Tendulkar made these comments in online interaction with Australian cricketer Brett Lee.
Speaking on the matter Tendulkar commented that “in Test cricket, a new ball should be made available every 45-50 overs”.
He compared the conditions of Test cricket to ODI cricket, where two new balls are available each innings.
He felt that if the ICC could allow the use of two balls in ODI cricket then there should not be an issue in allowing for multiple balls in Test cricket.
Tendulkar also feels that sweat along would not be enough to make changes to the ball, he feels that many different factors affect the amount of sweat produced and that in day-night Test encounters, sweat is not a viable option for ball shining.
Both Tendulkar and Brett Lee feel that an external substance such as a wax applicator should be used as a substitute until the saliva ban is lifted.
