Sri Lanka Team Might Begin Training From The First Week of June 2020

The Sri Lankan cricket board has announced that they will begin training of senior cricketer from July first, in a move to restart cricket in the country, post the COVID-19 outbreak. The first part of the training will be focused on fast bowlers, the English cricket board, too announced a similar training program last week.

According to reports the board is still coming up with plans to make the training sessions as safe as possible for the players. The training program will need to approve of the Sri Lankan government before it can take place. Speaking on the matter, Ashantha de Mel, the chairman of selectors for Sri Lankan cricket, commented that “the players are likely to train at the SCC cricket ground”.

He further stated that “this training session will focus on the bowlers only, and that if the session ends up going smoothly, then a full-fledged proper training camp would be conducted at a later date”. None of the Sri Lankan players have been in a cricket match since March of this year, this would be the first time that most of the players would be entering a cricket field since the COVID-19 lockdown.
