London: English cricketer Mark Wood, has commented that “England could lose the next Joe Root or Ben Stokes if cricket is not allowed to resume at the grassroots level”.
He feels that “the longer the government decided to keep the sport on lockdown, the interest of the people will reduce accordingly”.
Currently, all form of cricket is prohibited in England. With England set to take on West Indies in the coming months, many feel that it is time to lift the restrictions that are placed on cricket.
The England and Wales cricket board were planning on resuming recreational cricket from the fourth of this month.
However staunch resistance from the side of the government, which has prevented them from doing so.
Earlier this week, the Prime minister of England, Minister Boris had commented that “the cricket ball is a natural vector of the disease” and that the sport could not be allowed to resume, over fears of the virus spreading through the sport.
Speaking on the matter, Wood commented that “since the lockdown has been eased in the country, it makes no sense to prevent people from playing cricket”.
