Kookaburra awaiting ICC approval for wax applicator

Kookaburra awaiting ICC approval for wax applicator

Australian sports equipment manufacturer Kookaburra, who recently developed a wax applicator as a substitute for saliva is still waiting on the approval from the ICC for the applicator to be used in live games.

Last month, the ICC officially banned the use of saliva to alter the conditions of the ball, over fears of the spread of COVID-19. In response to this announcement, Kookaburra started developing a wax applicator that could be used as a substitute for saliva.

Speaking on the matter David Orchard, the general manager of Kookaburra, commented that “the wax applicator can only be used in games, if the ICC approves it”.

The company so far has not had an opportunity to test out the wax applicator. The main reason for this is because, currently no cricket is being played, due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

Speaking on the matter, Orchard commented that “the main intention behind the development of the wax applicator was for the protection for the players. He commented that use of the applicator would allow the game to continue on safely”.
