India’s ODI tour of Zimbabwe called off over fears of COVID-19

The BCCI has called off team India’s upcoming tour of Zimbabwe, that was set to take place in August of this year.

 

Due to the risks posed by the COVID-19 outbreak, earlier this week, the BCCI had announced the cancellation of the team’s series against Sri Lanka, which was set to be held next month.

After this news, it was expected that the tour of Zimbabwe would also be cancelled. The series against Zimbabwe consisted of three ODI games and was set to being from the 22nd of August.

The BCCI has also changed their stance regarding when they will allow players to start training outdoors.

Earlier the BCCI felt that they would be able to start training camps from July, however now they have pushed backs to start of training indefinitely.

Speaking on the matter Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI commented that “the BCCI will organize training camps only when it feels that the safety of the players is not on the line.

He stated that the board did not want to rush into getting back on the field and undermine the efforts of national and state governments to contain the COVID-19 outbreak”.
