Independent Panel Report Doubles Down On Ban Period For Umar Akmal
Disgraced Pakistani Cricketer Umar Akmal, who recently picked up a three-year ban, for breaching the ICC code of conduct, has received heavy criticism from an Independent disciplinary panel, which was appointed to look into his case.
The panel led by Fazal-e-Miran submitted their report on the matter, and as per the report, Umar Akmal would remain banned from international cricket until February 2023. The main focus of the report was on the unprofessional and dishonest behavior shown by Umar Akmal Pakistani Cricketer, who according to the report “failed to show remorse for his actions”.
The report states that Umar Akmal was unwilling to apologize for his mistakes and that the cricketer tried to take refuge under the pretext that he had reported past incidences to respective authorities.
Earlier this year in February, Cricketer Umar Akmal was charged with breaching Article 2.4.4 of the ICC code of conduct.
The timing of these charges prevented him from participating in the PSL, which was set to begin later that month.
After being tried, Cricketer Umar Akmal was found guilty and was handed a three-year ban starting from the 20th of February, 2020. Earlier it was reported that Umar Akmal could receive a reduced sentence, however, these speculations turned out to be not true.
