Several West Indies cricketers have finally returned to training following the lowdown that was imposed because of the COVID-19 outbreak. West Indies who are set to tour England in the coming months for a TEST series are still waiting on the approval of their government before restarting cricket in the country. The fate of the TEST series is also undecided at the moment.
Players who participate in the training sessions include, skipper Jason Holder, Kemar Roach, Shai Hope, Kraig Brathwaite, and Shane Dowrich among others. These players started their training at the Kensington Oval behind closed doors. In an official post regarding the matter, Cricket West Indies commented that “the decision to allow players to return to training was made by the government and that strict social distancing protocols are being followed during the training”.
A final decision regarding the team’s upcoming tour of England is expected to be made on the 28th of May when the Board of Directors for Cricket West Indies holds a meeting to discuss the matter. Speaking on the matter, Johnny Grave the CEO of CWI, commented that “the board is in the final stages of discussion with the ECB regarding the tour and that a decision regarding the matter will be made shortly”.
