BCCI has to face USD 1 billion loss financial situation if IPL is Not Started

BCCI, Star India staring at staggering losses if IPL is canceled.

BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal has commented that “the Indian cricket board would be in dire financial condition if cricket did not resume in the coming months”.

Different cricket boards across the world have been facing financial issues on the back of the stoppage in play, brought about by the Coronavirus outbreak. As a result, no cricket has been played for the past couple of months. Adding to the financial woes of the BCCI is the fact that this season of the IPL, stands a chance of being canceled entirely. This would mean huge losses for the BCCI.

The IPL, which was set to being from late March, currently does not have a start date after 2 months, and with each passing day, it looks less and less likely that the tournament could be held this year, owing to issues related to scheduling conflicts.

For the past few, years the IPL has been the biggest revenue generator for the BCCI, if the IPL ends up being canceled, other entities like state cricket boards and non-contracted players would also be affected significantly, The BCCI could face a loss of Rs 400 crore from the cancellation.

It remains to be seen if the BCCI would prioritize the IPL over international encounter if there is restraint over the time frame for conducting the tournament.
