Asia Cup officially called off following ACC meeting
The Asian Cricket Council, has officially announced the cancellation of the Asia Cup for this year. The News comes just a day after, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, and PCB chief, Ehsan Mani, expressed their doubts regarding the feasibility of hosting the tournament this year. The decision was taken after the ACC meeting which was scheduled to be held today.
In an official statement released to the public, the ACC commented that “the committee was looking for ways to conduct the Asia Cup, during its original time frame, however several factors including travel restrictions, player safety and country-specific requirements for quarantine, has forced to committee to push back the tournament to next year”.
Currently, the ACC, is planning to conduct the tournament during the June-July time frame next year. The hosting rights for the tournament has been reportedly exchanged between the PCB and Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka, will host the 2021 edition of the Asia Cup, while Pakistan will host the 2022 edition of the Asia cup. This move by the ACC to push back Asia, cup might work in favour of the BCCI, who were looking for a time frame to conduct the IPL, this year.
