Anil Kumble Thinking That Ban on saliva is a Temporary Measure

Former Indian cricketer Anil Kumble has commented that, “the ban on the use of saliva, to alter the ball conditions is temporary and that the ban will be lifted once the COVID-19 outbreak has been brought under control”. Earlier this month, an independent panel led by Kumble had recommended to the ICC that the use of saliva on the ball should be banned.

Speaking on the matter, Anil Kumble commented that “for the safety of the players, ban on the use of saliva on the cricket ball had to be implemented, however, he expects that within a few months time the ban could be lifted”. The decision by the ICC to ban the use of saliva on the cricket ball has sparked a debate within the cricketing community. Many bowlers feel that the new rules would put them at a disadvantage. However they have admitted that there is no alternative given the health risk involved with the matter.

Anil Kumble also commented that “the ICC is considering allowing controlled use of substances to alter the conditions of the ball”. He stated that “the ICC in the past has been very critical of the use of such substances and that careful considerations will be taken before making a final call”.
