Afghanistan Cricket Board To Slash Salaries By 25%

The Afghanistan cricket board is set to issue pay cuts for both the support staff and the players to mitigate their financial troubles, that have been brought about by the stoppage of play, because of the Coronavirus outbreak. Due to COVID-19, The ACB board has decided to slash the salaries by 25 percent of each player that’s is a permanent or contracted player.

Currently, the board is planning to make a 25% cut in salaries, however, if the team’s series against Zimbabwe ends up being pushed back, then the cut could go up to 50%. This also affected, Lance Klausner, who was recently appointed as the head coach for the team. Speaking on the matter, a spokesperson from the ACB cricket, stated that “this move from the board, was carried out as part of a cost-saving strategy and that the salary cuts could increase in magnitude in the coming months if the lockdown continues and no play is possible”.

Currently, the Afghanistan cricket board has paid the salaries of all contracted players and support staff, for the first quarter of this year. However the structure of the contract of all associated with the board, maybe re-evaluated if the series against Zimbabwe in July ends up being affected. Currently, 55 domestic players and 32 senior players are contracted by the ACB.
