Ab de Villiers denies rumours, of being offered captaincy of the South African national team
Former South African cricketer Ab de Villers has rubbished rumours that he was approached by Cricket South Africa, to lead the national team. De Villers made these comments after a TV channel in South Africa, quoted the cricketer as saying that he had received an offer from the team managed to get back into the team and lead the side again. De Villers, who retired from international cricket in 2018, has been in the news on many occasions, regarding his return to the national side. Similar rumours had also come out before the start of the 2019 World Cup when it was rumoured that he could make a return to the team. Time to South African head coach, Mark Boucher had commented that De Villers could be a part of the South African T20 World Cup squad if he is able to prove himself. Though he has retired from international cricket, DE Villers is still an active part of the T20 franchise league cricket, and participates in different tournaments across the world, all throughout the year. De Villers commented that “he will only make a return to the national side if he himself is confident that he can perform better than those in line for a spot in the squad”.
